Our final day of touring-Bethlehem, Gordon’s Garden and some photos

Today was a very long day. We started with a visit to Bethlehem, which is in a Palestinian controlled area behind the fence.—-

Our first stop was the olivewood factory store where we did some shopping.

Then it was off to the Church of the Nativity-the traditional birthplace of Yeshua.

After our visit to Bethlehem, we stopped for one last look at Jerusalem from a southern viewpoint. We had a few minutes for some photos before we left to join Erez at the mall for lunch.

After lunch we headed back to the Old City for a stop at the Garden Tomb. SOme of us took a little side trip to visit the Damascus Gate while we waited for the Garden to open.

After our visit to the Garden Tomb we started our drive towards Ben-Gurion airport and our flight home. We had a few minutes to stop at our guide Erez’s community and visited their version of Nazareth Village.

Erez received a thank-you card from the group.

We had a nice farewell dinner in Abu Gosh.

After dinner we headed back to Erez’s community to wait for our flight home. As you know, we had a six hour delay, but we managed. Here’s one last photo of our tour host Micheal Hedrick with his wife Rachel.

Yad Vashem and Ben Yehuda

Today was a different kind of touring day. We started with a time of praise with Richard then headed for the Holocaust Memorial at Yad Vashem.

We made a brief stop at the Knesset, home of Israel’s government and took a look at the state symbol-the menorah.

Richard from Sar El, our ground co-ordinator, paid us a visit to say hello.

Our second stop for the day was the main market street in Jerusalem, Ben Yehuda St. We had plenty of time for some shopping.

Tomorrow we’ll visit Bethlehem and the Garden Tomb before our farewell dinner in Abu Gosh and departure from Ben-Gurion airport. Looks like it will be a long day.
My final post well likely be from home on Saturday.

Rapelling, Hezekiah’s Tunnel and the Old City

Today we started off with some rapelling and climbing in the bell caves southwest of Jerusalem.

Then we returned to Jerusalem and visited David’s City where we watched a 3D movie and went through Hezekiah’s Tunnel.

We finished off the day with a short visit to the Jewish Quarter of the Old City for some sightseeing and shopping.

Tomorrow we’ll visit the Holocaust Museum- Yad Vashem.

The Old City

Today we visited the Old City of Jerusalem. I have posted quite a few photos on the flickr page, here are a few samples.We started off with a visit to the Western Wall and the Western Wall Tunnel.

After that we finished our time at the Western Wall with a visit to the Davidson Center Archaeological park and the southern steps of the Temple Mount.

Touring continued with a stop atop the Mt. of Olives, the the path down to the Garden of Gethsemane where we had a time of meditation in the garden.

Then it was off to the Christian Quarter of the Old City for lunch and some shopping.

We visited the Church of the Holy Sepulcher.

We followed the Via Dolorosa to the Pools at Bethesda and had a time of worship in the church there.

From Galilee to Jerusalem

Today was a day of travel and swimming as we sadly left the Sea of Galilee and made our way southwest to Jerusalem.We started with a brief visit to one of the Decopolis cities-Bet She’an. We didn’t have time to tour the entire city, but we did stop at the arena.

Then it was off to the Yisreal Valley for a swim at the National Park Sahne. Sahne is a series of pools nestled in the foothills of Mt. Gilboa.

A short trip down the highway and we were at Har Megiddo. Megiddo is a tel or hill underwhich many cities lay buried. Because of it’s location at a crossroads, Megiddo has been subject to many battles. Rob spoke from Revelation and asked us to take a few moments to think about the future.

Our next stop, after falafel lunch, of course, was Mt. Carmel.

We continued our travels east to the coast and Herod’s ancient city of Caesarea Maritima.

Tomorrow is going to be a very early day, with a wake up call at 6:00 am so that we can make our appointment at the Western Wall Tunnel.

A great day in the Galilee

Today we toured the area of Yeshua’s ministry in the Galilee.Ben started the day with a little karate after breakfast.

Then we headed for Nof Ginosaur for a look at the 1st century boat before we took our own ride on the Sea of Galilee, or Kinneret, as it is called here in Israel.

But first a little shopping.

We had some cross-cultural instruction from one of the boatmen.

Then we visited the Mt. of the Beatitudes where Rob shared a teaching with us.

After the Mt. of the Beatitudes visit we took a short drive to the traditional site of the loaves and fishes.

After felafel lunch we visited the site of man y of Yeshua’s teachings-Caphernaum.

After our time at Capharnaum we drove north along the shore of the Galilee and then ascended into the Golan Hts. for a look at the entire Galilee area from a place called Peace Viewpoint.

After taking in the view we continued south along the Syrian and Jordan borders to the southwestern shore for a swim.

Tomorrow we leave the Sea of Galilee and head west and then south to Jerusalem.
